Getting to Griffy

By sahoo2

For those of you who are not yet familiar with this little B-town Jewel I encourage you to make the short trip as you will be pleasently surprised. Griffy lake (reservior) was built in the early 1900s as water supply for Bloomington.Today the lake and surrounding woods are a great little wilderness escape just 1 mile away from the heart of campus. There is an extensive network of hiking trails, good fishing, canoe and kayak rentals (just $6 per hour) and some good picknick areas as well.

Getting There:

From campus – Head north on Fee Ln. crossing the bypass. Follow the curve right onto E. Matlock Rd. and then left on to N. Headley Rd. As you enter the wooded area you can park at the IU Research and Teaching Preserve parking lot at the top of the hill on your left (to do some hiking) or continue down the hill to Griffy Lake(Hiking, boating, fishing). I hope you all will take advantage of this little treasure and the reason my internship exists. Enjoy!
